Building A Better Salisbury, Together
Enhancing Quality of Life for All Residents: Of all the issues that come before the City Council none are more important than those that impact the quality of our lives. These include access to affordable housing, enhanced public safety, crime reduction, and investing in our public schools. Focusing on these issues will provide opportunity for all.
I believe it is of the utmost importance to our City to enhance everyone's quality of life and this isn't just a campaign speech. By following the budget and money spent in our City we can see the priorities of our elected officials and I will work every day to ensure our priorities are front and center and get the attention they deserve. |
Empowering Community Partnerships: I am committed to people over politics. Let's build bridges in our City by : bridging the divide between communities through programs such as the Community Covenant Committee, the Human Relations Council and BlockWork; we can improve relations between the Police Department and residents by adding Community Relations Officers; and we can develop partnerships that tap into the resources of the very large employers in our area.
We can't police our way out of poor community relations - we must all work together to improve relations within our community and make it a priority to build lasting relationships with all citizens. Our citizens are our greatest asset and believe we must work together in order to find solutions which benefit everyone and allow our City to grow and prosper. |
Energizing Economic Opportunities: With new ideas come new opportunities and energy. I believe the City of Salisbury can be an Historical City and a Modern City at the same time. We don't have to choose a path, by working together we can implement new stratigies and goals which will propel our city to new heights while creating a place people want to relocate to because of good jobs, good schools, and an atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome and appreciated.
Great strides have been made in the daunting process of owning and operating a successful business in Salisbury, including the “One-Stop Shop” initiative, but we need to focus more on facilitating minority business ownership, working with the RowanWORKS Economic Development and establishing mentoring and recruitment programs to provide fulltime jobs for our residents and keep our graduates here. It is time to make Salisbury "Open for Business" and employment. |
“We have so many people doing so many great things. But we seem to continue to work in silos. And I don’t know anyone better than me that knows how to get people connected to get stuff done,” Sheffield said. “That doesn’t mean that I always have the answer, but, man, I know somebody who might have worked on this somewhere else.”
